The Israel Electric Company held a memorial observance today at the Masmia Junction, between Gedera and Kiryat Malachi, for two company employees and six guards who were murdered in an ambush on September 10, 1938, corresponding to the 14th of Elul, which was on Shabbat.

The ambush took place after repair work on the power line between Gedera and Be'er Tuvia. Terrorists opened fire on the second of two cars in the group. The guards returned fire, killing a number of the ambushers. The battle continued until the guards ran out of ammunition. The electric company was recently able to locate surviving relatives of the guards, who took part in the observance.
