In response to inquiries received by the Tzomet Institute, Rabbi Menachem Perel writes that anyone who bathed in streams defined as dangerous and falls ill with Leptospirosis (Achberet in Hebrew) on Shabbat must examine the matter and, if necessary, telephone or travel to a doctor, medical center or hospital without hesitation.
In the event of a trip, it is preferable to do so by bike, electric vehicle (with the Tzomet Institute's Shabbat command) or any other vehicle (in that order). The rabbi stressed that there should be no unnecessary panic in general, especially regarding tourism in the Golan Heights, and that his remarks relate only to those who visited the streams that the Health Ministry warned about and did not feel well during Shabbat.
