Border Police officers and Tax Authority inspectors thwarted the smuggling of cigarettes and tobacco from Judea and Samaria to Israel, when they stopped a suspicious vehicle in the Barta'a area of Nahal Eeron, which straddles the 1949 Armistice Line.

In the vehicle, police found large amounts of cigarettes and tobacco smuggled from the Palestinian Authority section of Barta'a. There were 770 boxes of cigarettes of all kinds, 40,000 rolled cigarettes and tobacco. The driver of the vehicle, a resident of Shfaram in his 50s, was turned over to the Tax Authority.
