The chief rabbis of Israel have issued a special appeal to "All rabbis of Israel from all communities and circles" to come to a special emergency conference to be held on Wednesday against the conversion reform.

The conference will take place against the background of new conversion recommendations submitted to the government by former minister Moshe Nissim, which provoked harsh reactions among many of the rabbis. In their reading, Rabbis David Lau and Yitzhak Yosef write that "the voice of the Torah must be heard against the recommendations of the Committee on conversion and subsequent legislative efforts." The rabbis added other issues such as kashrut, marriage, and divorce, in which attempts to undermine the authority of the Chief Rabbinate should be prevented.
