Deputy Speaker of the Knesset, MK Israel Eichler (United Torah Judaism) warned the members of his faction that the current version of the nationality law may present a "trap" that would have ramifications lasting for decades.
"By virtue of the nationaliity law, the High Court of Justice will be able in the future to determine what a 'nationality' is, what a 'nation" is, what a 'people' is and what is 'Jewish,'" Eichler wrote in a letter.
"The judges will be able to nullify any law that contradicts their subjective interpretation of matters of religion and state."
