The Shas faction announced that it will vote against the Draft Law when it reaches the Knesset floor next week.
"At the meeting of the heads of the coalition factions that took place today, I informed the prime minister that, according to a directive by the Council of Torah Sages, under the leadership of our Rosh Yeshiva, Shas opposes the draft law in its present form and will vote against it in the Knesset plenum," said Shas leader Aryeh Deri.
"As we made clear with the receipt of the memorandum of law, we view Torah study as a supreme value in the Jewish people and insist that every Torah scholar can diligently study his Talmud without interruption. We will not allow any harm to those who study Torah or the status of yeshiva students, "added Deri.
