During a meeting of coalition party leaders, Chairman Aryeh Deri of the haredi-religious Shas Party demanded the advancement of the government's conversion bill, submitted a year ago, according to which only conversion of the rabbinical courts will be authorized and recognized, and not those of any other body.
Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu announced at the meeting that since he only received the report presented by former minister Moshe Nissim today, he was required to study it and consult with those involved, and that he intended to ask the attorney general to ask the court to postpone the matter. Deri said he intended to bring his bill for approval in the first reading in the plenum soon.
