Chairwoman Tamar Zandberg of the Meretz Party said on Thursday, "I have told the American ambassador in Israel that I would not be able to participate in the inauguration of the new embassy in Jerusalem." Speaking at the 2018 Herzliya Conference, she explained, "I really want to see all the embassies in Jerusalem and I want to see Jerusalem recognized by the world as the capital of Israel within recognized and secure borders. We simply cannot celebrate unilateral moves whose potential for danger is so significant."
Zandberg continued, "Past experience shows us that unilateral steps do not 'remove an issue from the table', but on the contrary, complicate it further, and while Jerusalem's being the capital of Israel is an undeniable fact, peace is in great doubt."
