A 70-year-old copy of Israel's Declaration of Independence, rolled up in a container, was found this week, when "the national cypress tree" was uprooted by strong winds in the Jordan Valley community of Degania Aleph.
The scroll was buried under the tree, which was planted to mark the establishment of the modern Jewish state in 1948. The container kept it in excellent condition.
