President Reuven Rivlin urged his Ethiopian counterpart during a meeting in Addis Ababa to assist Israel in returning Ethiopian-Israeli Avera Mengistu to his family. Mengistu has been held by Hamas for almost three years since running into the Gaza Strip.

"Welcomed today by President of Ethiopia. We held a series of important discussions on the development and deepening of cooperation between our two countries in the areas of water technology, health, agriculture, food security, environment and cyber," tweeted Rivlin.

"We also spoke of the great challenge of facing terrorism in which we must stand united. I urged the President to do all he can to help bring Avera Mengistu back to his family, along with our fallen sons Hadar and Oron from Gaza."
