Member of Knesset Tzipi Livni reacted, Thursday afternoon, to word from Knesset member Ya'ir Lapid that "there is a discussion on an override clause with a majority of 70 Knesset members whom jurists do not oppose."
Lapid was talking about legislation to allow the Knesset to override Supreme Court vetoes of its bills. Writing on Twitter, Livni said, "The debate is not about the number of MKs who can legislate discrimination and the denial of rights, but on the principle. From your perspective 70 MKs can legislate inequality [in military-service responsibility] and absolute exemption for all haredim [from the draft] without the a Supreme Court that will protect equality as a value? Do not be a partner to those who destroy the foundations of democracy under the guise of law as if it has merit."
