Neighbors of the United States consulate in Jerusalem have filed a petition with the Supreme Court against its conversion to be the US embassy, according to News 2.
At issue are US security requirements that will require a fence that blocks the view to the east and an escape route from the Diplomat Hotel that is currently a natural hiking area. Finance Minister Moshe Kahlon signed an exemption from the usual process of hearing objections from the public. The residents are being assisted in their petition by the Ir Amim organization, whose representative stated its welcoming the US embassy if part of Jerusalem was designated as the capital of a Palestinian Authority state.
