Judge Khaled Kaboub of the Tel Aviv District Court has withdrawn his candidacy to be a judge on the Supreme Court, ahead of Thursday's selection by the Committee on Judicial Appointments.

Kaboub was the choice of the Israel Bar Association and Chief Justice Esther Hayut, and was viewed as the first Muslim who could be named to the bench but withdrew because he viewed his chances were small against the perception that Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked did not want a second Arab on the bench, alongside Christian George Kara.
