Transportation Minister Yisrael Katz asked Minister of Finance Moshe Kahlon today to waive the anticipated increase in the annual vehicle license fee on April 1.

The fee, like all other transportation fees, is updated every year on April 1, according to the rate of change in the consumer price index. The fees are within the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Finance, and the revenues from them are transferred directly to the Treasury. Katz said, "Israel's drivers have become cash cows of the State of Israel, and the public coffers have become addicted to income from the industry. I have asked the finance minister in the past and do so again to work to lower the car license fee, which is much higher than the accepted rate in the world, due to the surplus collection from the car industry."
