A third of Holocaust survivors living in the United States live in severe poverty, according to a report by the American organization Blue Card, which focuses on helping survivors of World War II. About 60 percent of the 100,000 Holocaust survivors living in the US today live on incomes that amount to less than $23,000 a year, double the official poverty rate of the US population.
According to Blue Card, each year the number of requests for assistance received by them rises by an additional 20%, indicating a problem of severe poverty among Holocaust survivors. Meanwhile, the Jewish Union of North America has announced its intention to distribute $ 2.8 million to 30 organizations assisting holocaust survivors throughout the US.
