Ireland's ambassador to Israel was summoned by the Foreign Ministry following an Irish legislative initiative which calls for a boycott of products produced in Israeli communities in Judea and Samaria.

The ambassador said that this was an initiative raised by independent representatives in the Irish Senate and that the Irish government opposes the initiative. She added that this was not a BDS initiative and that the Irish government was resolutely opposed to a boycott of Israel.

The deputy director-general of the Foreign Ministry said in response that Jerusalem regards any initiative to boycott settlements as part of the BDS activity.
