A resident of eastern Jerusalem was detained for questioning by agriculture inspectors on Sunday evening, after about 110 cartons of eggs that were allegedly smuggled into Israel illegally and without supervision were found in his vehicle after he was stopped for a traffic violation
The eggs were allegedly intended for distribution in Jerusalem. The police department said that "the vigilance of the police led to the detection of large quantities of eggs that could have reached the food of innocent civilians and caused severe health damage."
