The Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee held a hearing on the thefts from army bases and firing ranges.
Colonel Eran Uliel, the director of operations in the IDF, said that there had been 50 thefts per year over the past year just from the Tzeelim training base.
IDF reservists at the hearing complained about the lack of enforcement at army bases and presented examples of the lack of state will to prosecute the thieves. In one case the state was ordered to compensate a thief who entered an explosives storeroom and was injured by an explosion caused by his theft.
