The Ministry of Environmental Protection, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, has granted accreditation to 49 environmentally friendly "green" educational institutions, from the north to the south, and from all sectors of the education system. Each certified school has received financial support from the Ministry of Environmental Protection of up to NIS 20,000.
Since 2004, the two ministries have led the program, in which 1,075 schools from all over the country have been certified as green, healthy and environmentally efficient schools. In the accreditation process, schools are required to meet several criteria: integrating environmental issues into the curriculum, carrying out a community-environmental project, assimilating an environmental lifestyle in schools and saving resources, providing visual expression in the teaching institution to deal with environmental issues, leading a "green" student council and teacher training for the school's environmental staff.
