The U.S. State Department said on Wednesday it is “deeply disappointed” by Myanmar’s decision to allow the prosecution of two Reuters journalists who were arrested last month.
“The media freedom that is so critical to rule of law and a strong democracy requires that journalists be able to do their jobs,” said the State Department.
The two reporters were arrested when they were working on stories about Myanmar’s security crackdown in its western Rakhine state.
