The Treasury has asked the Interior Ministry to appoint a special auditing officer to investigate the budgetary activity of the Jerusalem municipality, claiming negligent and even criminal fiscal conduct.
The request came after Jerusalem mayor Nir Barkat announced that he would have to fire some 2000 municipal workers and cut services to residents, claiming that the Treasury is not transferring to Jerusalem the budgets it had been promised.
