Minister of the Interior Aryeh Deri has made it clear that a bill putting discretion for supermarket openings on the Jewish Sabbath will come up for a vote on Monday in the Knesset plenum.

Writing on Twitter, the chairman of the haredi-religious Shas party said, "Before the establishment of the state, it was enacted in orders of the municipalities that an interior minister must approve bylaws, and this year the High Court of Justice ruled that the authority of the interior minister is purely technical and immaterial." Deri "In the wake of the Supreme Court [ruling], we will bring an amendment to the law that says the minister's authority is substantive and will preserve the situation that has existed for decades."
