The Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, Muhammad Ahmad Hussein, has condemned the inauguration of a new synagogue in the Western Wall tunnels.
The synagogue is near the huge stone in the tunnels which faces the place of the Holy of Holies and is a result of 12 years of archaeological work and structural support in order to preserve the site.
Hussein stated that the new synagogue is a "clear violation and provocation of Palestinian feelings," and an "attempt to erase Islamic history and to establish a false Jewish presence in the region."
