The Knesset Labor, Health and Welfare Committee has approved the "Tradition of Israel" bill, under which the labor and welfare minister must take religious tradition into consideration in granting permits for work on the Sabbath.

The bill sponsored by haredi-religious Member of Knesset Moshe Gafni and others, was merged with the government's version of the bill and will be submitted to the Knesset for second and third readings.
