Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said on Sunday that Turkey wants to open an embassy in eastern Jerusalem, following a decision by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to recognize the area as the capital of a Palestinian Authority state, according to Hürriyet Daily News.

Speaking at a meeting of his Justice and Development Party (AKP), Erdoğan said, “We have already declared East Jerusalem as the capital of the Palestinian state but we haven’t been able to open our embassy there because Jerusalem is currently under occupation. G-d willing we will open our embassy there soon.”
