The director of the Institute for National Security Studies, General(Res.) Amos Yadlin, said that the war in Syria has been tipped in Assad's favor due to Russian assistance as opposed to US and Israeli impotence. The Iran-Hezbollah coalition and Assad does not favor Israel and Israel was mistaken in maintaining neutrality in the Syrian was as it should have done more to help topple Assad in 2012 before Russia and ISIS joined the civil war.

Yadlin said that Israel had been cautious but too cautious and would now need to mark red lines for Iran and its proxies regarding its own security requirements.
