Opposition leader Yitzhak Herzog spoke at the 40th anniversary Knesset session marking Anwar Sadat's visit to the Knesset.
Herzog called on the prime minister to initiate a diplomatic process with the Palestinians, stressing that "it will not be possible to achieve a total peace solution without an agreement with the Palestinians." and quoting Sadat who said the same thing.
Herzog responded to Netanyahu's earlier statement that he had yet to meet a Palestinian Sadat, adding that "you don't just need a Palestinian Sadat, you need an Israeli Begin. Some people testify that four decades ago, you, esteemed prime minister, opposed the peace agreement with Egypt and expressed your opinion publicly."
