A third of all suicides in the last decade in Israel were committed by new immigrants according to new data from the Health Ministry's 2016 report presented in the Knesset's Absorption Committee.
The chairman of the committee, MK Avraham Neguise(Likud) stressed that immigrants are at risk for suicide because they do not have a supportive enviroment and suffer from difficulties in adjusting and earning a livelihood. Neguise called for funding of support programs and also asked Israelis to lend a "sympathetic ear and a helping hand to every immigrant they know. Sometimes a smile and a good word can be the difference."
