State Prosecutor Shai Nitzan has criticized a bill to end the police practice of summarizing their investigations with a recommendation to prosecutors on whether or not to try a suspect.

The bill was proposed against the backdrop of corruption investigations involving Prime Minister Netanyahu, which would not be affected by the bill because they are already under way. Nitzan told the Knesset Interior Committee, "There is a fear of harming equality because of the intention to apply it only to a certain type of case." He added, "The police recommendation is essential. That's why we have the police."
