Citipass director: Railway fines establish a deterrent

The Committee for Public Petitions headed by MK Yisrael Eichler(UTJ) met to discuss numerous complaints about the fines issued by the Citipass company which operates Jerusalem's light rail system, as well as about the attitude of supervisors towards the public.

Eichler distinguished between those who didn't pay and those who have paid but did not register their tickets, whom he claimed should not be fined in the same category as those who never payed. He added that there are too many stories about supervisors removing people from trains in unsafe neighborhoods simply because they didn't have a proper ticket.

Citipass director Yaron Ravid responded that the entire system is built on registering the tickets and without fines there will be no deterrent for passengers. I'm not embarrassed to say that the goal of the fines is to establish a deterrent."
