Regional Cooperation Minister Tzachi Hanegbi has announced that he strongly opposes a bill that imposes on the public the funding of primaries in the parties.

Responding to the Ministerial Committee on Legislation's endorsement of the measure, Hanegbi said, "When there are not enough resources for the basket of medicines, the allowances for the disabled, the education system and even for essential security needs, it is inconceivable that the Knesset will impose a tax of tens of millions of shekels on the citizens of Israel to fund the campaigns of candidates in their parties." He called on all factions in the Knesset - coalition and opposition - to reject the proposal outright.
