A 3-year-old girl underwent a special operation to remove her thyroid gland after doctors determined she carries a gene which could cause the development of a virulent form of cancer.
The girl's father was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 30 and genetic screening revealed that the problem was genetic and was present in his 1-year-old daughter. Dr. Hagai Maza'a of the Hadassah hospital's Neuro-Endocrinological growths unit performed the successful operations on father and daughter.
