Supreme Court Justice Noam Solberg has ordered the government to respond within 10 days to a petition filed today by the family of Lieutenant Hadar Goldin, whose body has been held by Hamas since he fell in 2014's Protective Edge counterterror campaign in Gaza.
In the petition, the family is requesting that the court instruct the prime minister and the relevant ministers to implement the decisions of the political-security cabinet, according to which Hamas should be pressured to returning Goldin's body and that of Sergeant Oron Shaul along with three living Israelis. The pressure would comprise stopping visits by families of Hamas prisoners, a ban on releasing the bodies of Hamas terrorists or terrorists identified with them and restrictions on the granting of permits for humanitarian entrances from Gaza to Israel.
