Chief Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef who is also the president of the Higher Rabbinical Court attended the opening of a new rabbinical court in Haifa together with Minister of Religious Services David Azulai and senior members of the rabbinical courts.

Yosef devoted his speech to combatting the phenomenon of retired rabbinical judges writing their opinions on pending cases in favor of one of the parties.

Yosef said that this was wrong as "they don't know all of the facts which become clear only in the courtroom and therefore make the court look more stringent than they are."

Yosef praised the importance of being lenient but stressed that this does not mean everything is permitted but rather that judges should make efforts to find leniencies but "if the matter is forbidden -it is forbidden."
