Knesset Speaker Yuli Edelstein has sent a letter to his Polish counterpart in Warsaw, following the Polish parliament's intention to promote new legislation that could prevent the rights of descendants of Polish Holocaust survivors to claim their property.
Edelstein is asking his counterpart to change the language of the legislation so that it will guarantee this right in the future as well. A number of clauses in the new legislation prevent property claims from descendants of Holocaust survivors who are not residents of Poland today. Naturally, most of the descendants of the Polish Holocaust survivors do not live in Poland, but are scattered throughout the world, including Israel.
