MK Rahel Azaria (Kulanu), the initator of the Shabbat law together with Knesset members from the coalition and opposition, responded to the ruling allowing the opening of stores on Shabbat.
"The status of Shabbat should be regulated by law, every petition is a weapon in the struggle between different groups over the character of Shabbat. It's time we phrased in unison how Shabbat should look ,and the task is upon us, the legislators to do this. This is why we have initiated a law for a comprehensive regulation of Shabbat's status in Israel, scheduled to be brought to the Ministerial Legislative Committee Sunday.
"Shabbat us too important to us to continue fighting over it, its time to reach a broad consensus for all sectors. I call on all the religious and haredi parties, stop looking to the court for the guilty parties and let's make our own Shabbat law."
