A panel was held in Jerusalem Wednesday regarding the recent sale of land owned by the Greek Orthodox Church to a mystery buyer. Many families in Jerusalem have been left uncertain over the fate of their homes as a result.
"We knew that the Jewish National Fund had the option to buy from the church, we made a wonderful financial deal and I am not ashamed of it," said Avraham Aberman, who represents the buyers.
Knesset member Azaria, who is part of a campaign to protect the tenants together with members of the Yerushalmi faction in the municipality, objected to granting free rein to the buyers. "Thousands of families will find themselves without an apartment, and we can not afford to say 'whoever wants to come buy', we have a responsibility for the tenants," she said.
