Knesset Speaker Yuli Edelstein has called for the separation of powers in Israel to be returned to the way it was, telling the ceremonial opening session of the Knesset's winter session that it has become a myth.
Edelstein said, "The spread of power between the three authorities and the strict observance that each of them will carry out its unique function are necessary and not a nice decoration. These are the defining elements of our governance structure. They are the ones who guarantee the freedom of our citizens. Without them, Israel's prosperity as a Jewish and democratic state is in danger."
