Chinese bloggers with more than 35 million joint followers on Chinese social media met in Israel with Solomon Perel, a 93-year-old holocaust survivor who managed to impersonate a Hitler youth member, was sent by the Nazis to Germany and survived the war. The bloggers had been brought on a "Young Chinese and Japanese leaders" program initiated by Prime Minister Netanyahu and the Foreign Ministry.
The bloggers had seen Perel's book, Europa Europa and the movie based on the book, but nothing prepared them for the meeting in person with Perel.
One of the bloggers, Jan Jingsheng, broke down in tears when he met Perel in person, stating that “I read the book, I watched the movie, and I was moved to tears when I was suddenly face-to-face with this hero in real life. I never believed it could happen.”
