MK Rachel Azaria (Kulanu) responded to a Channel 2 report stating that the Greek Orthodox patriarch would be meeting with senior officials in order to thwart Azaria's proposal to regulate the status of the Greek church's land in Jerusalem.

"Thousands of units in Jerusalem and countrywide were built on land leased from the church by the JNF and other organizations," said Azaria. "The JNF unfortunately did not purchase the lands or extend the lease and the church sold the land to unknown businessmen.

"As a result, hundreds of people may lose their homes. I already met the patriarch on the matter and will meet again as required in order to find a solution for Jerusalem residents. My proposal does not confiscate the land from the church but ensures that residents who paid for their homes will not lose their rights to those homes," said Azaria.
