Representative Peter J. Roskam (R-IL) has sent a letter to President Trump urging him to block the sale of "hundreds of militarily-fungible aircraft from Western companies" to Iran Air, "the terror-supporting transport-arm of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps". Iran said last week that a pending deal for 80 planes from Boeing would not be affected by Trump's tough talk on Iran.
In the letter, also sent to Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, Defense Secretary James Mattis and Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin, Roskam notes, "In 2016, under the Iran nuclear accord, the U.S. removed sanctions against Iran Air. Since then, we have witnessed no change in Iran Air’s activity. According to open source photos, flight tracking, and numerous expert reports, Iran Air continues transporting troops and weapons to Syria, while remaining sanction-free and able to buy hundreds of new aircraft to bolster its terror-supporting operationspons transport method, the U.S. can proactively weaken Iran’s future ability to send weapons and militiamen from Iran to Syria to fight for Bashar al-Assad and Hezbollah."
