Hundreds of 'toy' weapons confiscated in Qalandia

On Monday, the Israel Defense Forces and Border Guards entered the Qalandia refugee camp at the northern end of Jerusalem and confiscated hundreds of firecrackers from a store that sold them to target IDF forces. Also confiscated were dozens of air pistols that could be converted into locally-made weapons.

IDF forces on operational activities in Judea and Samaria sometimes encounter fireworks and the throwing of bombs at them, and more than once the firecrackers are direct and therefore pose a threat to the forces and sometimes civilians. Most of the bombs are made from firecrackers. Monday's operation was part of the extensive campaign against weapons in the hands of Palestinian Authority residents, under a decree prohibiting the possession of toys that can be converted into dangerous weapons.
