A police patrol was summoned to an apartment in central Jerusalem after a burglary and violent assault were reported.

Policemen met the owner of the apartment, a 63-year-old woman living alone, who was being treated by MDA medics and was later transferred to hospital in light condition.

An investigation revealed that the suspect broke into her apartment, attacked her and fled. The woman's description of the suspect, together with evidence gathered from the scene, led police to quickly establish the identity of the suspect: A man in his 50's living in the same building.

After police arrived at the neighbor's apartment, his son tried to prevent his arrest and attacked police. The father was arrested for burglary and assault and the son for disturbing and attacking police.

The two were brought to a police lockup and will be arraigned in court Sunday.
