Tony Dimitriades, longtime manager of Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers has confirmed that the rock musician died Monday at the age of 66 after being rushed to a Los Angeles hospital.
Petty was part of the Temple in Flames tour with Bob Dylan which included appearances in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv 30 years ago. While in Jerusalem, Petty met up with Avraham Rosenblum of the Diaspora Yeshiva Band, who took him on a tour of the Western Wall and the Temple Mount.
The Forward quoted Dylan as responding to the news of Petty's death by saying, “It’s shocking, crushing news. I thought the world of Tom. He was great performer, full of the light, a friend, and I’ll never forget him.”
