The POLIN Museum for the History of Polish Jewry, located on the site of the Warsaw Ghetto, has won a European Union prize for its contribution to the preservation of the cultural heritage of Polish Jewry, which was almost completely wiped out during World War II.
The Europa Nostra ("Our Europe") Award is awarded annually by the European Cultural Federation of the European Community, a umbrella organization representing 250 NGOs throughout Europe. This is the first time in history that the prize has been awarded to an institution in Poland, but not the first time that the museum has been awarded a European Prize for its activities. Last year, the museum won the "Museum of the Year in Europe" award for its efforts.
