For decades, Dr. Michael Gilboa, a senior ophthalmologist, treated thousands of patients at Rambam Hospital in Haifa and other facilities in the north. A few days ago he died in the hospital at the age of 72, and even after his death continued to care for the health of patients when he asked to donate his corneas.
The transplants of the two corneas were also performed in two patients at Rambam.
