General(Res.) Yitzhak Pundak, who served on the Southern front in the War of Independence, passed away at 104 years old.

Pundak will be buried at the 1948 fighters section of Kibbutz Nitzanim cemetery. Pundak requested this after the Kibbutz ,which was under his command, fell in the War of Independence and he felt personally responsible for its downfall.

Pundak became a general at the age of 100 after a prolonged fight to implement a promise given to him by Moshe Dayan in 1954.

Pundak later served as governer of the Gaza strip and northern Sinai and left the IDF before the Yom Kippur war. He said that after waiting 59 years for the fulfillment of Dayan's promise, becoming a general was "the fulfillment of a dream."
