A new law passed in the New York Senate prohibits the transfer of bodies of deceased citizens to forensic institutes without the written consent of the family. The law awaits official ratification by the New York Governor.
The current protocol allowed forensic institutes to request bodies which no person has claimed for 48 hours after their death. This caused grave lack of respect to childless Jewish people who died and whose bodies were not claimed by community members.
