Former Iranian president Mohammad Khatami called on spiritual leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei to free reformist leaders Mir Hossein Mousavi and Mehdi Karroubi, who have been under house arrest since 2011.
The two were jailed after leading protests against Iran's controversial 2009 election, in which Mahmoud Ahmadinejad won a second term.
