The Honenu organization, an Israeli Zionist legal aid organization offering legal assistance to protect and preserve people's rights to receive a fair judicial process, received a complaint from a couple arrested near Temple Mount for circling the gates, arguing with police and refusing to identify themselves.
The couple were jailed overnight but were not provided with beds. The woman slept on a bench in the police station corridor with no privacy and no warmth, bed or pillow. She fell sick as a result and lost a number of work days.
The husband was forced to spend the night in an open police courtyard, with no protection against the Jerusalem cold.
The two were released the next day without any restrictive conditions.
Police conceded that the complaint was legitimate and added that the officer involved would be punished but Honenu intends to file for compensation for the physical and emotional abuse suffered by the detainees.
